Quality Control Manager

Department: Quality Control
Location: Davie, Hollywood, Miami, FL

Summary:  The Quality Control Manager at Ozinga demonstrates leadership and promotes a positive and cooperative attitude, while managing the company quality control efforts in accordance with customer needs and overall standards.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintains professional, safe work environments and areas in and around QC labs; promotes safety, quality compliance and healthy   environmental practices in alignment with company standards
  • Exceeds expectations of excellent service to customers and coworkers, encompassing our value of service; addresses questions and concerns along with business issues in a timely manner
  • Encourages and supports training efforts and learning for processes and procedures, ensuring that quality standards are met; improves operational efficiencies and supports research/analysis efforts across company
  • Maintains open channels of communication regarding mixes and/or jobs with techs and customers, as well as dispatch and operations
  • Encourages teamwork and motivation among coworkers and maintains high employee morale and positive attitude; leads change and promotes growth within department
  • Reviews specifications for job quotes; provides accurate pricing information for bid purposes
  • Demonstrates a commitment to team communication with daily scheduling of technicians and monitoring their performance
  • Leads Quality team, developing staffing plans for direct reports and establishes schedules for projects; provides work direction, professional development and mentoring to direct reports
  • Researches new mix technologies and continues education for self and staff; keeps QC technicians up on latest training and industry   knowledge
  • Investigates and solves concrete related problems (e.g.: low breaks, scaling driveways, slow set times); uses industrial knowledge to problem solve and build entrepreneurial team spirit
  • Completes mix submittal packages for jobs won; oversees effective communication with sales and operations to ensure materials are available for all jobs
  • Collects and monitors ACI 214 data on mixes; optimizes mixes when applicable
  • Ensures proper QC practices are followed on jobsites per ASTM guidelines; attends pre-bid and pre-placement meetings
  • Purchases and maintains QC equipment, focuses on cost reduction, and machine maintenance and installation
  • Oversees all quality processes and champions continuous improvement, monitoring data and results 
  • Manages annual budget of expenses for department
  • Responsible for documentation associated with FDOT compliance and annual mixes:
    • Startup and weekly gradations
    • Up to date, organized material information in binders
    • Plant Certification: NRMCA, FDOT, CMEC
    • Manages database of mixes and historical data of cylinders; coordinates management reviews and quality system audits
    • Active involvement in various technical committees through local associations and government agencies
    • Maintains necessary NRMCA and state-appropriate certifications  


  • Bachelorís/Undergraduate Degree or equivalent preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; effective analytical skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with local, state, and federal compliance regulations
  • Must be discreet, as position requires the handling of confidential information
  • Strong sense of urgency to business needs and proactive problem solving
  • Good computer operating skills (general Microsoft Office applications)
  • Completion of NRMCA Aggregates and Concrete - Short Course  
  • ACI level I & II; ACI Flatwork Certified
  • FDOT Batch Man, Level I & II Certification

Working Conditions:  Fast paced environment with a need to respond to ever changing scenarios.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, vehicles, heavy construction equipment, toxic or caustic chemicals, and outside weather conditions.  Noise level is usually moderate, but can be high and requires personal hearing protection on occasion at job sites, plants and laboratories.

Physical Requirements:  

Candidate Must be able to:  

  • Frequently bend in order to obtain samples from stockpiles or ground, climb ladders with buckets of admixtures, and push wheelbarrows of concrete.
  • Lift at least 50 pounds several times a day.
  • Operate buttons, levers, and other controls located on various equipment.
  • Work through stressful situations while maintaining professionalism and composure 
  • Sit and drive for extended periods of time
  • Work long and flexible hours as necessary
  • Maneuver in and around our plants, yards and jobsites as necessary
