Customer Order Specialist

Department: Ozinga Materials & Logistics
Location: Mokena, IL

This position is part of Ozinga Materials & Logistics front line facing to our customers.  A Customer Order Specialist will interact with our customers, vendors and haulers within a professional and service orientated environment.   This position will work directly with haulers and customers ensure highest levels of service, satisfaction, and profitability and is vital to the success and performance of our service center team.  They are responsible for aggregate material order taking, order data entry, communication with dispatch, logistical awareness, and possessing aggregate product knowledge. The ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment along with proficiency in MS Office and APEX is essential. They are an excellent team player and utilize their strong organization and communication skills to execute and assist in the daily tasks of customer service and order administration.  

A typical day for a Customer Order Specialist may look like:

  • Approaching all service interactions with employees, customers, and vendors in a professional, service-oriented manner
  • Weighing vehicles in and out of remote scale locations, verifying proper vehicle, carrier, product and order information, and ensuring compliance with MSHA & DOT legal weight restrictions
  • Handling periodic moderate to high call volumes
  • Process customer aggregate material orders, transportation orders, and hauler inquiries using dispatch system
  • Accurate and timely data entry into aggregate materials ticketing system
  • Discretionary influence in development of Customer Service organization
  • Calculating and processing payments for customers
  • Liaison with Dispatch teams and Dispatch Manager

You may be a good fit for this role if: 

You are a college graduate with a BS degree or higher (business, technology, transportation, supply chain logistics related field) OR You have experience in a transportation, supply chain logistics or aggregate materials related industry.  You have experience working in a customer service role or call center teams.  You are a proactive, self-motivated, detail-oriented person.  You are a critical thinker, you can identify problems and enjoy creating solutions.  You are a team player and demonstrate strong organization and excellent communication skills, both written and spoken.  You enjoy serving and meeting customer needs.  You’re able to remain calm in high pressure situations.  You’re able to communicate effectively with a wide variety of customers and truckers and be an effective problem solver.  You have two or more years’ experience using Apex Dispatch System or similar POS Ticketing software.  You can read, write and speak English.  Bi-lingual Fluency in Spanish and/or Polish also valued.  You champion the Ozinga company values of Service, Learning & Entrepreneurship.

  • Customer Service may result in stressful situations.
  •  Working conditions will consist of time both in-office and outdoors in the field (aggregate shipping sites, etc.)
  • Extensive email, text and phone communication.
  • Extended hours during peak season / as business deems necessary.  Potential for occasional evening or weekend work and travel (industry functions, trade shows, conferences, etc.)
  • Varied work schedule – split coverage during peak demands.
  • General Office Hours – 6:00AM – 4:30PM
