Accounts Receivable Specialist

Department: 110 - Accounts Receivable/Collections
Location: Mokena, IL


Primarily responsible for maintaining complete, accurate and timely information on customer accounts. Also provides clerical support and assistance to the department.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Effectively post cash receipts from check, lockbox, ACH, cash and credit card transactions to customer accounts
  • Research and verify validity of account discrepancies and all pricing or tax adjustments
  • Process adjusting entries for valid and authorized deductions accordingly
  • Maintain confidential customer account records and banking information
  • Scan payment backup information via internal imaging software consistently and accurately
  • Assist with month and year-end processing, AR reporting, and internal and external audits as needed
  • Collaborate on system implementation and any additional projects requested by department manager
  • Review and improve process efficiencies routinely



  • Communicate professionally with all staff; incorporate acceptable computer use practices and proper email etiquette at all times
  • Professionally handle incoming phone calls; resolve and correct discrepancies with highest level of customer service

Administrative Support:

  • Serve as backup for other accounting functions as applicable
  • Regular attendance and physical presence at work is an essential function of this position
  • This job may require additional duties not listed above and the employee may be asked to perform those duties to meet business needs


Education/Specialized Knowledge/Professional Certifications:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting preferred


  • Two to five years’ experience in Accounting or similar field preferred
  • Prior experience with Lockbox services preferred


  • Knowledge of accounts receivable processes and general accounting functions
  • Maintain high level of integrity and discretion in handling confidential information
  • Strong work ethic and positive attitude
  • Professional written, and verbal communication skills required
  • Detail-oriented; ability to manage multiple activities/projects concurrently
  • Problem-solving skills and pro-active mindset
  • Independent functioning level user in Microsoft Excel; proficient in Microsoft Word and Outlook
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment to meet all deadlines
  • Must include ten key calculations, data entry and fast/accurate typing
  • Display self-initiative; maintain a cooperative and positive relationship with both internal and external

Working Conditions:

  • Operation within a professional office environment
  • Routine usage of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers and filing cabinets

Physical Requirements:

  • This is a largely sedentary role; sitting for long periods of time
  • Regularly required to talk or hear; frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
  • Occasionally lifts 10-15 pounds
