Electrical Technician

Department: Equipment Maintenance
Location: Mokena, IL

Summary:  The Electrical Technician is responsible for the daily maintenance of numerous plant/building electrical systems with guidance from the Electrical Department Manager.  Individual will perform various functions relative to electrical maintenance, trouble shooting and new installations while at the same time periodically instructing and guiding other maintenance personnel.


Principal   Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Analyze overall plant systems and their operations ensuring proper functionality 
  • Perform electrical preventative maintenance and troubleshooting in a systematic manner when applicable 
  • Plans, directs, and records periodic electrical testing, recommends modification or replacement of equipment failing to meet operating standards.
  • Installs/repairs wiring & small conduit, including the bending and threading of conduit, according to accepted codes and NEC standards
  • Monitors inventory part levels ensuring timely availability of product
  • Use electrical instrumentation, process controls, relay logic, and control circuits to wire, configure, and maintain motor control circuits (including Soft Starts and Variable Frequency Drives).
  • Instructs and supervises personnel and/or contractors on project installations and complying with all safety rules and procedures; including reporting and correcting unsafe actions or conditions in a timely manner
  • Respond to emergency calls as directed
  • Create and/or file various written reports, including schematics for new or modified systems and requested work estimates
  • Performs special tasks and projects as assigned by Electrical Manager/Supervisor.


  • 5+ yrs experience in an industrial setting with 110v/208v and 480v, including the bending and threading of conduit
  • Possess basic knowledgeable in PLC architecture, installations, and maintenance practices
  • Ability to read and interpret manuals, parts catalogues, electrical/control schematics as they apply
  • Possess basic knowledge of NFPA-70 (NEC) and NFPA 70E (ARC Flash & Electrical Safety)
  • Ability to work reasonable overtime and off hour occasions as requested by Management.
  • Must be a self-starter and demonstrate a sense of urgency.
  • Possesses strong inter-personal and communication skills.

Working Conditions:

Works in a fast paced environment with a need to respond to ever changing scenarios.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemicals, and outside weather conditions.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. 

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to frequently bend, climb ladders and stairs
  • Must be able to operate buttons, levers, and other controls located on various equipment.
  • Must be able to sit and drive for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to work long and flexible hours as necessary
  • Must be able to maneuver in and around our plants, yards and jobsites as necessary  
  • Must be able to work through stressful situations while maintaining professionalism and composure
