Senior Staff Accountant

Department: Ozinga Materials & Logistics
Location: Mokena, IL

Ozinga is seeking a Sr. Staff Accountant.  The Senior Staff Accountant is both a strategic and hands-on role that will provide full accounting support to our external and internal customers. This role is responsible for ensuring the integrity of accounting information by recording and verifying transactions and reporting. Partnering with the Financial Planning and Analysis team, bridging actuals, budget and forecasting, along with providing guidance to other staff accountants.  

A typical day in this role might include: 

  • Perform monthly close activities, including the preparation of journal entries, bank reconciliations, account analyses and accruals.
  • Perform monthly P&L variance analysis and Balance Sheet review.
  • Analytical review of accounting records including general ledger account reconciliations and other financial reports to assess accuracy and completeness.
  • Review intercompany accounting including receivables and payables between all Ozinga entities.
  • Oversee and provide guidance to accounting staff regarding monthly and daily responsibilities.
  • Support accounting process associated with inventory, including automation and valuation review.
  • Support fixed asset system management and reporting.
  • Analyze current procedures and recommend changes to develop and implement for best practice and improved efficiencies.
  • Prepare schedules and other information requested for annual external audit.
  • Ensure compliance with the law and company’s policies.
  • Participate in various committees on company-wide initiatives.
  • Other common Accounting and Finance related tasks as requested by the Controller/CFO.

We are looking for a proven leader with a servants heart that is: detailed and analytical, can solve problems at their root cause, has advanced knowledge of Accounting, budgeting and cost accounting/project costing, experience with General Ledger Functions and Month-end/Year-end close processes, and can manage multiple projects while prioritizing accordingly, and can effectively communicate verbally and in writing.  This individual must have: at least 5 years experience, including management, an in-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principals (GAAP), a B.S. in Accounting, Finanace, or related field, a C.P.A., advanced Microsoft Office skills, and usage of Accounting software packages.
