Senior Accounting Manager - Mokena 2021

Department: 104 - Acct/Finance
Location: Mokena, IL

Summary:  The Senior Accounting Manager will be responsible for supervising and managing the accounting department and all areas of financial reporting. Responsibilities include developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices, and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements, including distribution to respective stakeholders.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee the daily operations of the accounting department and staff
  • Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of financial reporting and general ledger structure for multiple business units
  • Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end close
  • Guarantee timely reporting of all monthly financial information
  • Assist in development and implementation of new procedures to enhance workflow of department and  reduce reporting cycle
  • Ensure monthly and quarterly compliance activities are performed in a timely and accurate manner
  • Work with confidential data, while consistently maintaining confidentiality and integrity of business
  • Collaborate with department managers to support overall department goals and objectives
  • Monitor and analyze department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy
  • Advise staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions
  • Respond to inquiries from the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), VP of Accounting and Finance, Accounting Director, and other department managers regarding financial results, special reporting requests and the like
  • Work with Accounting leadership to ensure clean and timely year-end audit
  • Provide training to new and existing staff as needed
  • Handle personnel issues relating to staff conflicts, absenteeism, performance issues, etc.
  • Work with each direct report and lead development discussions and advise on progress to enhance professional development of staff
  • Support Leadership with special projects, company-wide initiatives, and workflow process improvements

  • Regular attendance and physical presence at work is an essential function of this position

Qualifications:

Education/Specialized Knowledge/Professional Certifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Bachelorís degree in Accounting or Finance required; Masterís degree preferred

Experience:

  • Minimum 6 years of relevant experience in financial reporting/general ledger area

Skills/Abilities:

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, accounting software and databases
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Confident in directing and supervising
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departmental functions
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Demonstrate initiative with the ability to manage multiple activities/projects concurrently and prioritize accordingly

Working Conditions:

  • Operation within a professional office environment
  • Routine usage of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers and filing cabinets
  • Travel requirements are minimal

Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly required to talk or hear; frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms
  • Occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
