Senior Accountant

Department: 104 - Acct/Finance
Location: Mokena, IL

Summary: The Senior Accountant is both a strategic and hands-on role that will provide full accounting support for the Ozinga business. This role is responsible for ensuring the integrity of accounting information by recording and verifying transactions and reporting. Through partnership with the various process owners and department managers, the Senior Accountant will play an integral role in ensuring that all stakeholders are equipped with complete and accurate data to address business needs.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform monthly close activities, including preparation of manual journal entries, account reconciliations and analysis, and analytical review of general ledger data and financial reports for completeness and accuracy.
  • Assist in preparation of monthly financial statement packages for divisional management and executive team.
  • Research and answer questions from stakeholders on financial results.
  • Collaborate with FP&A team as needed.
  • Support accounting processes associated with long-term debt, fixed assets, fleet, accounts payable, and inventory, as requested.
  • Document policies, procedures and workflow for assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Analyze current procedures and recommend changes to develop and implement best practices and increase efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and Company policies.
  • Contribute to department and organizational special projects as requested.


  • BS in accounting, finance or related field; CPA preferred
  • 3 + years progressive experience in the accounting field; public accounting experience a plus; construction or manufacturing industry experience a plus.
  • Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Strong accounting and analytical skills.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in MS Office suite and financial reporting programs.
  • Experience with Microsoft D365 a plus.
  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process.
  • Ability to effectively handle multiple activities/projects simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong leadership, attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team and take on new tasks with high level of difficulty.

Working Conditions: This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers and filing cabinets.
